Candi Martin Baker
Artist in Action at Art at the Schoolhouse

Iris #1
Watercolor by Candi Martin Baker
2007 Spring Art Show "People’s Choice Award"

Come to Art at the Schoolhouse on the grounds of Christianson's Nursery, 15806 Best Road on the Tulip Route in Mount Vernon, to see artist Candi Martin Baker in action on 2 Sundays, April 13 and April 20, 2008. A diverse artist who paints in many mediums including acrylic, oil, tempra, pastel and watercolor, Candi will be conducting demonstrations of her art in miniature throughout both days.

Ms. Baker was introduced to art at an early age by her father, Royden Martin, who was a Listed Artist from Carmel, California. She has spent a lifetime studying architectural rendering, mechanical drawing and figure drawing. Her current full sheet series, "Last Light," is a dynamic watercolor series of large florals loaded with details in a close up and personal visit with the subject. They are so full of life one almost expects them to move in the breeze and fill the air with a delicate scent.

As a member of the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild, Candi received multiple accolades at the 5th Annual Spring Art Show in 2007. First, her submission was chosen by her fellow Guild members to be the poster art. Then, during this judged art show, she was awarded both a First Place Award and an Honorable Mention in watercolors. And finally, she was given the People's Choice Award by the Guild's many patrons who attended this show.

The Art at the Schoolhouse show is open daily from 9am to 6pm throughout the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, April 4 - April 27, 2008. Come to meet the many artists who will be there daily and watch Candi Martin Baker as she demonstrates her work on Sundays, April 13th and 20th. Enjoy the work of all 23 artists who are showing and selling their work on the grounds of Christianson's Nursery at the 1888 Schoolhouse. Meet the Artists
Patti Pontikis and Dick Meske

Pendant
Lampwork Glass by Patti Pontikis

Come to Art at the Schoolhouse, an art show presented by the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild at the antique 1888 Schoolhouse on the grounds of Christianson's Nursery, 15806 Best Road, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. Meet Patti Pontikis, a glass artist, and Dick Meske, a creator of artistic wood products from 9am to 6pm on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 26, 2008.

The glass beads and pendants created by Patti Pontikis are made using a process called "lampworking," a method commonly used by the glass artists in Morano, Italy. To accomplish this, a bead is formed by holding glass rods over an open torch flame of intense heat, then DICHROIC glass layers of luxuriant color are added, and finally, the bead is shaped to the artist's desired size and shape using special tools. Patti's beads and pendants are each one of a kind. She incorporates them into jewelry using gold, silver, pearls, crystals and semi-precious stones.

Dick Meske's wood products are primarily functional pieces. He creates fiddle-back knives, cutting boards, lazy susans and guitar stands from beautiful hardwoods including figured maple and blood wood. Each unique piece is designed and hand made by the artist.

The art show includes fine art and crafts for ones home and garden created by 23 local artists. Conveniently located on the scenic tour of the picturesque country roads through Skagit Valley, you may enjoy a respite from the traffic by stopping at Art at the Schoolhouse on the grounds of Christianson’s Nursery from April 4 to April 27, 2008 from 9am to 6pm daily.
