Artist Profile

Art by the Bay Featured Artist: Diane Hill

Diane Hill is a Northwest watercolor and oil artist who has exhibited, competed professionally, and taught art for the past 35 years. She graduated with a degree in Art Education from the University of Washington, having received a scholarship. She taught art in public schools,, at Everett Community College, and continues to teach watercolor at the Stanwood Senior Center and privately in her own Camano Island studio. She continues to challenge herself, spending summers practicing plein air painting with the Camano Roving Artists, as well as weekly painting sessions with a group of Island artists.

One of Diane's paintings was selected by vote of the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild membership as the poster art for the 2005 Art by the Bay festival.

Diane has traveled and painted scenes from Europe, Nepal, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Her method of communication is a sketch book, from drawing pictures of hill children in Nepal, to sketching in the back streets of China. Diane has won awards in numerous juried shows, including the Bellevue Arts and Crafts Show, Art by the Bay, and the Coupeville Arts Festival.

Diane's derives great joy from teaching and watching students developing their expressive skills through painting. Diane says, "art is an exquisite expression of one's self. To be able to convey that inner feeling through the media of painting is a marvelous mystery."

Diane Hill can be reached at 360.387.0393.
