More About the Performers

Mockingbird

Mockingbird is an acappela trio, consisting of Robin Wallbridge, Sherrie Lutsch and Lesley Rigg. They have been delighting audiences throughout the Pacific Northwest for over eight years. Brewing their own songs, both humorous and heartfelt, about daily life (motherhood, coffee, rain, relatives and love), they also sing messages about tolerance, unity, and peace. Here's a partial review of their third CD:
"We3, by the trio Mockingbird, stays fresh and interesting and delightful from start to finish, and more remarkably, does so without the sound effects and schtick that even some of the big names resort to. The group cheerfully and confidently takes on the canon (“Away Ye Merry Lassies”), the hits (“Teach Your Children”), and seeks out weird wonders from afar (the hilariously thought-provoking “Co-dependent With You,” by east coast whiz John Forster). The harmonies are beautiful but edgy rather than lush, and the arrangements keep the music moving by changing tempos and spotlighting different members, not through startling interjections and techno-scat." –Tom Petersen, Victory Review, September 2004. Campbell RoadCampbell Road

Formed in 1994, Campbell Road plays original arrangements of traditional Irish and Scottish tunes and songs. Campbell Road also performs tunes from other traditions (everything from Cape Breton to Scandinavian to klezmer) as well as some original compositions. They have performed at pubs, festivals, Highland Games, weddings, and private parties throughout the state of Washington. Band members include Jessamyn Tuttle on flute, whistle, bodhran, djembe, claves, and vocals; Jon Nauert on fiddle, bouzouki, djembe, and vocals; Dan Tuttle on guitar, banjo, fiddle, and vocals; and Barbara Tuttle on bodhran, djembe, and other percussion instruments. Campbell Road has recorded three CDs, By Blood or Marriage, Bare Bones, and, In Spite of Wind & Weather. Click here for more information about Campbell Road.

Steve Harris, Mark Dodge, and Wende HilyardSteve Harris & Friends

“Honest, heartfelt, and unique” describe the original songs that you’ll hear from Big Quack recording artist Steve Harris. His acoustic guitar style has been influenced and blended by years of playing professionally in folk, country, bluegrass and Celtic bands in a variety of venues. Steve has developed into a fine songwriter, both solo and in collaboration with other writers. Steve became permanently disabled in late 2001, but music and visual arts continue to be positive healing and creative forces in his life. Steve will be performing with Mark Dodge on guitar, bass, and tenor ukulele (Mark is on the LEFT in the photo), and Wende Hilyard on sweet harmony vocals. Come listen and buy a CD. Click here for more information about Steve.

The South End String Band

The South End String BandA “fiddle tunes big band,” the South End String Band have created quite a name for themselves in the Stanwood-Camano area. Comprising eleven local musicians on fiddle, guitars, banjos, dulcimers, autoharp, percussion, washboard, easel, sandpaper, etc., the South End Band plays music everybody knows, and peppers each performance with a generous helping of down-home wit and wisdom, served up by their anonymous “spiritual advisor,” Skeeter Daddle. The hardest working band on Camano Island will have a second CD out soon, entitled “Victims of Unbridled Ambition” recorded on Camano Island. Their first CD, "Legends in their own Minds" went "rusty tin," (not quite multi-platinum) according to Skeeter. Come listen and buy their CDs. Click here for more information about The South End String Band.

Bob Christensen & Mark Dodge

Bob Christensen and Mark DodgeBig Quack Records recording artist Bob Christensen is a singer/songwriter with an outstanding voice that makes you feel like you're wearing a pair of comfortable shoes. Bob is an entertainer who makes everyone feel right at home, singing great folk and country-blues style originals and covers, plus topical folk songs. Bob will be joined by longtime pal and collaborator Mark Dodge on bass guitar and vocals. Bob's CD, Rear View, contains 11 great tunes in the country-folk vein, written by Bob and Mark and other better-known songwriters. Come listen and buy a CD. Click here for more information about Bob.

The Acoustic Detour

Get off the main road and go for an Acoustic Detour. Regular performers on the island, Acoustic Detour is an acoustic-based harmony group playing a wide variety of well-known tunes to more eclectic music, as well as an original or two. The group consists of Cathy Tibert on vocals, guitar, and flute, Eric Wilmoth on vocals and guitar, and Paul Tibert on bass.

Coyote Moon

Join Dale, Bobby and Wes for some fun music and laughs. Dale is a master entertainer and is wonderfully backed up by Bobby’s wash tub bass and Wes’ tasty guitar. The latest member of the group (not in the photo) is local fiddle champion Walt Werme, whose smokin' strings provide the perfect musical burr under Coyote Moon's collective saddle.

Mark Bamber &
Renegade Radio

Local singer/guitarist Mark Bamber has been singing and playing the blues since he was a teenager, and that was quite a ways back. Over the years he has been involved in many musical pursuits, from playing and recording with a band in Mexico City in the early ‘70s while attending college there, to 15 years playing solo in the wilderness on his salmon trolling boat in Southeast Alaska. For the past three years he has been playing at events around Stanwood and Camano Island. Mark loves singing the blues songs of Robert Johnson, Albert King, Magic Sam, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, John Lee Hooker and other blues greats. Mark will be joined by some talented friends, including guitarist/bassist Jeff Lemaiche, and others.

Paul Nyenhuis

Paul is the creator of beautiful native American flutes. Paul uses his creations to play his compositions of beautiful, soulful, spiritual music; musical collaborations between Paul and Nature.
