More About the Performers

Stay Tuned
10 am Saturday

On Saturday, the festival kicks off in high gear with champion fiddler Walt Werme and his band Stay Tuned, including the mother/daughter duo of Shirley Shaw on guitar and vocals, and Susan Lovold on violin and vocals. Walt, a former professional fiddler, won a number of fiddling championships in his career, and is currently ranked third among senior division fiddlers nationwide. Their entertaining show comprises hoedowns, rags, polkas, Celtic, gospel, and “fun ditties,” employing three-part harmonies as well as bass fiddle and hammered dulcimer. Stay Tuned performs 10am to noon, Saturday July 17th.

The Village Theatre’s Kidstage
Noon Saturday

The Village Theatre's Kidstage and Sky Theatre performers will entertain you with songs from Footloose, The Wizard of Oz and more. Several of the young performers have acted on the professional stage. Come see Kidstage's production of Footloose at the Everett Performing Arts Center August 6-15. For more information, see www.villagetheatre.org

Carol Ann HunnerCarol Ann Hunner
1:30 pm Saturday

Saturday afternoon listeners will enjoy an hour with Carol Ann Hunner, an Art by the Bay favorite. She is a graduate of the illustrious Guitar Institute of Technology, and continues to perform folk, jazz, and classical music in addition to teaching up-and-coming guitarists full time at her Camano Island studio. Carol has performed at dozens of festivals and radio stations, and at literally hundreds of concerts and schools nationwide. One reviewer said of her CD, Treasure of the Sun and Moon, “Her songs display a startling uniqueness of vision and style, with haunting poetic lyrics and intricate harmonies.” Carol performs from 1:30 to 2:30 on Saturday, July 17th. Come listen and buy her CD!

The Papa Murat Band
2:30 pm Saturday

Papa Murat is the name of the “tropical electric folk jazz” band fronted by local singer/songwriter Greg Murat, a founder of the locally-legendary Banana Brothers band. Greg has recorded several CDs, has performed in Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and locally at the Gorge amphitheater, the Moore theater, Bumbershoot, and Parker’s ballroom, to name very few. The band performs high-energy original music with an island attitude, somewhere between Camano and the Caribbean. The lineup features Greg Murat on acoustic guitar, Jimmy Culler on bass, Mike Daily on drums, and Mark Dodge on electric guitar. The Papa Murat Band plays Saturday, July 17th at 2:30pm. Come listen and buy their CDs! Click here for more information about The Papa Murat Band

Cathy Tibert & Friends
11:00 am Sunday

Camano Island resident Cathy Tibert is a vocalist who plays guitar, flute and harmonica and sings a wide variety of well-known folk/rock songs. She has performed with an acoustic-based vocal harmony group called Somebody's Mother, an Art by the Bay perennial favorite, and has also performed at local events such as the Arlington Street Fair. She will be accompanied by Dennis Griffiths, a guitar and mandolin player who plays with the bluegrass band Sagegrass, and who has also been a member of Somebody's Mother. Cathy and Dennis will perform from 11:00 am to Noon on Sunday, July 18th.

Pattie Vail
Noon Sunday

Pattie is a Camano Island guitarist with an eclectic background. Her jazz roots and flamenco studies, along with blues and Indian music influences, combine for a smooth, vivid sound. She will create a loosely improvised, hypnotic soundscape as the sun waxes over Camano Island. Melody Maker magazine said of Pattie, “Guitar is her forté, and she makes a nice sound with it.” Pattie has a long and varied performance resumé, including appearances in Europe, London, and Seattle's Bumbershoot, and studied at London’s Royal Academy of Music. Pattie performs from Noon-1:00 on Sunday, July 18th.

Steve Harris
1:00 Sunday

“Honest, heartfelt, and unique” describe the original songs that you’ll hear from Steve Harris. His acoustic guitar style has been influenced and blended by years of playing professionally in folk, country, bluegrass and Celtic bands in a variety of venues. Steve has developed into a fine songwriter, both solo and in collaboration with other writers. Steve became permanently disabled in late 2001, but music and visual arts continue to be positive healing and creative forces in his life. Steve is working on a CD project scheduled for release later this year. Steve performs from 1:00-2:00 on Sunday, July 18th.

The South End String BandThe South End String Band
2pm Sunday

A “fiddle tunes big band,” the South End String Band have created quite a name for themselves in the Stanwood-Camano area. Comprising eleven local musicians on fiddle, guitars, banjos, dulcimers, autoharp, percussion, washboard, easel, sandpaper, etc., the South End Band plays music everybody knows, and peppers each performance with a generous helping of down-home wit and wisdom, served up by their anonymous “spiritual advisor,” Skeeter Daddle. The hardest working band on Camano Island has a new CD, entitled “Legends in their Own Minds” recorded on Camano Island. The South End String Band plays from 2:00-4:00 on Sunday, July 18th. Come listen and buy their CDs! Click here for more information about The South End String Band.
